Key Biscayne is an island located in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States, between the Atlantic Ocean and Biscayne Bay. It is the southernmost part of the barrier islands along the Atlantic coast of Florida, and lies south of Miami Beach and southeast of Miami. The Key is connected to Miami via the Rickenbacker Causeway. Key Biscayne is not part of the Florida Keys. It is a barrier island composed of eroded sand from the Appalachian Mountains.
The Village has a fire station, police station and a newly redeveloped public elementary and middle school. The tax rate continues to be the lowest of any municipality in Miami-Dade County. The area is very upscale with a lot of wealthy Venezuelans, Argentineans and Columbians living in luxury homes. It was developed in the 1950s as affordable housing for World War II veterans.
Well known residents have included President Nixon and the actor, Andy Garcia. The population in Key Biscayne is over then thousand and growing, but Spanish continues to be the most predominant language spoken there. Most of the residents own their own home. There is a mix of condominiums and single-family homes.
Key Biscayne has a relaxing and more conservative atmosphere than the exciting Miami’s vibrant city. This is a place where you can enjoy the beach, ride a bike, go to the park, play golf or tennis, see the Cape Florida lighthouse, or visit where President Nixon’s real estate property used to be. The crime rate is extremely low. The only crime is committed in the community is the general speeding and illegal parking.
